Most board seats are filled before anyone advertises them.
Board Match uses AI to read the signals that a UK organisation may be about to need a non-executive, an interim or an advisor — and tells you early, while there is still time to introduce yourself.

The market as it stands
You can pay to become board-ready and still have nobody to call.
Search for help getting a non-executive role and most of what you find is a course. Training programmes, accreditations, board-readiness academies, memberships that bill annually. Much of the sector makes its money teaching people to be non-executives rather than showing them where the seats are.
Meanwhile the seats themselves move quietly. Very few board roles are ever advertised at all — most are filled through a conversation, a recommendation, or a search firm working a list. By the time something is published, the chair has usually spoken to three people already.
Which means a job board, however good, can only ever show you the small end of the market. The route in is knowing which organisations are heading for a change before anyone is briefed to find someone.
Board Match does not sell training. We have nothing to teach you. We tell you where to look, and why.
What you get
The seats you would never hear about — and the few that are advertised.
Signals
Organisations showing signs that a board change may be coming, each with the context behind it — what changed, when, and what it suggests they may be looking for. Ranked, so the ones worth your time reach you first.
We track a range of different signals, across every kind of organisation, and the set grows as we learn which ones actually lead to a seat. No single indicator tells you much; several pointing the same way is worth a conversation.
One example, because it is the easiest to picture: a company that has just taken investment. New money usually means new governance — investors take seats, and the board is often expected to add an independent chair to sit between them and the founders. That need is real, it is known inside the business long before it reaches a search firm, and almost nobody outside is watching for it. It is one of several we watch.
Advertised roles
The non-executive, chair, trustee, advisory, interim and fractional roles that do get published, gathered from across the UK so you are not trawling a dozen boards to be sure you have seen them.
There are not many, and we would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. They are here so you do not miss the ones there are — not because they are the only place.
How you use it
We tell you where to aim. You do what you are good at.
- Pick the target, then network your way in. You already know how to do this — building a relationship into an organisation is the skill that wins board seats, and it is probably how you got your last one. What nobody can do is work two thousand organisations at once. We name the handful worth the effort; you do the part you are good at: connect to people inside, find the person who can introduce you, get known before there is anything to apply for.
- Arrive early, with a reason. A short, informed note to a chair who is quietly thinking about their board is a different conversation from an application among sixty others. And if you are already a familiar name by the time a search begins, you are not applying at all — you are being called.
- And answer the adverts too. When something is published you see it in the same place, matched to the sectors and regions you care about. It is the smaller channel, but it costs you nothing to have it covered.
Being straight with you
A signal is not a vacancy.
It means an organisation looks more likely than most to be considering a change to its board. Some will be. Some will not. We would rather say that plainly than promise you openings that do not exist.
What it buys you is timing: a reason to make contact before a search begins, and a shortlist short enough to actually work through.

Experienced non-executives and chairs, first-time candidates looking for a way in, subject-matter advisors, interim executives and fractional leaders.
